What started as a small neighborhood effort has grown into one of Baltimore's most impactful food security programs. This month, FutureThink Hub's Grocery Giveaway Saturdays reached a historic milestone: 29,000 families served.

The Journey to 29,000

Every Saturday morning, rain or shine, our team of dedicated volunteers arrives at our distribution center before dawn. By 8 AM, lines of families stretch around the block, each one leaving with bags full of fresh produce, proteins, dairy, and pantry staples.

"When we started, we were serving maybe 50 families a week," recalls founder Brandon M. Phillips. "Now we're averaging 400-500 families every Saturday. The need in our community is real, and we're committed to meeting it."

More Than Just Food

What sets our program apart is the dignity we bring to the experience. There are no lengthy applications or income verifications. We believe that hunger doesn't discriminate, and neither should access to nutritious food.

Each family receives enough groceries to last a week, including:

• Fresh fruits and vegetables
• Proteins (chicken, fish, or plant-based options)
• Dairy products
• Bread and grains
• Pantry staples

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate this milestone, we're already planning for the future. Our goal for 2026 is to expand to additional locations, bringing Grocery Giveaway Saturdays to even more Baltimore neighborhoods.
